The Galaxy S23 Ultra will feature a 200MP main camera at the back. That’s almost twice the resolution of the 108MP primary shooter found on the Galaxy S22 Ultra, as well as the Galaxy S21 Ultra and Galaxy S20 Ultra before it. So it isn’t surprising that the upcoming Samsung flagship will capture more detail. Photos would look less pixelated when cropped or zoomed in. This leaked camera sample confirms that. The photo from the Galaxy S23 Ultra has a lot more detail and exposes the subject more clearly. These appear to be cropped images. The difference in detail should appear lesser in the full-sized photo. Perhaps most users won’t even notice the difference. The photos would look the same. And that’s the biggest limitation of a 200MP camera surface. By default, the camera will use pixel binning to capture either 50MP or 12.5MP shots. For most users, the image quality in these two resolution matter more. Not many people would capture 200MP shots in their daily life. That said, Samsung has reportedly improved its camera software and algorithms across the board with the Galaxy S23 series. So we should be getting improvements all around, including the telephoto zoom cameras, which would still employ a 10MP sensor. The 200MP primary camera itself is new and should bring plenty of improvements over the first and second-gen solutions from the company. We are hearing about much improved night photos and videos. Hopefully, this early camera sample is indicative of what is to come.
The Galaxy S23 series is still months away
The Galaxy S23 series is at least three months away. Samsung hasn’t officially announced the launch date yet but rumors are that the phones will arrive in late January 2023 or in early February. We should see many more leaks and rumors about the devices between now and the launch event. Maybe more camera samples and other key details. We will keep you posted with all the latest information about the next-gen Samsung flagships.
