April update reaches the Galaxy S10 Lite and a few others
The Galaxy S10 Lite is currently picking up the April security update in Spain. The update should reach other countries in Europe and beyond in the coming weeks. The new firmware version for the phone is G770FXXU6GVD1. From what it appears, this update brings more than just the new SMR to the affordable Galaxy. But we don’t have the changelog handy to confirm that. Perhaps Samsung is seeding One UI 4.1 to the phone. Most other eligible Galaxy smartphones have already received the latest One UI version. The Galaxy A52 is also receiving the new SMR in Europe but more broadly. The update comes with firmware version A525FXXS4BVD1 and likely doesn’t bring anything apart from Google and Samsung’s security fixes for this month. The mid-ranger has already picked up the One UI 4.1 update. Lastly, the April SMR is now available to the Galaxy S20 phones in the US as well. As of this writing, the update is rolling out to the carrier-locked variants on T-Mobile’s network. Other carrier variants as well as their unlocked counterparts should join the party soon. The updated firmware version for the Galaxy S20, Galaxy S20+, and Galaxy S20 Ultra in the US is G98*USQS2FVD1. The international versions of the Galaxy S20 trio have already received this month’s security update. As far as the content of the April security patch is concerned, there’s a lot to look forward to. This month’s SMR patches more than 80 vulnerabilities, including the well-documented Dirty Pipe vulnerability that affected Samsung’s Galaxy S22 and Google’s Pixel 6 phones. It also fixes a bunch of SVEs (Samsung Vulnerabilities and Exposures) that allowed remote code execution.
Samsung has already released the May security update
Samsung may still have a few smartphones awaiting the April security update but the company has already released the May SMR. The rollout began for the Galaxy S22 series earlier this week. It should gradually reach other Galaxy models over the course of next month. In the meantime, if you own any of the Galaxy S10 Lite, Galaxy A52, and the carrier-locked Galaxy S20 in the US, you should soon get the April SMR. Watch out for a notification about the OTA (over the air) rollout in the coming days.
