As of this writing, the Galaxy S10 phones are receiving the new SMR in Switzerland with firmware version G97xFXXSEHVD1. But it shouldn’t be long before users in other countries can also get the latest update on their aging smartphones. Don’t expect anything more than security fixes though. Those days are now gone. The Galaxy S10 trio will only get security updates now.

Samsung won’t offer software support to the Galaxy S10 for much longer now

Launched in March 2019, the Galaxy S10 series is now in the fourth year of its life. The devices debuted with Android 9 Pie and have already received the three major Android OS updates that Samsung promised — Android 10 through Android 12. The Android 12-based One UI 4.1 update, which rolled out to the devices last month, is likely the last major feature update for them. Samsung also recently demoted the Galaxy S10 trio to quarterly security updates. This is the first update for the phones since. They will get at least one security update every three months until March 2023. After that, Samsung will likely drop software support for the phones. The Galaxy S9 series reached this inevitable fate last week.

The Galaxy Note 20 series is also getting the April update

Along with the Galaxy S10 series, and several other models, Samsung is also today rolling out the April security update to the Galaxy Note 20 series. The new SMR for the 2020 S Pen wielding phablets is available to unlocked variants in the US. The updated firmware version for the phones is N98xU1UES2FVC7. Their carrier-locked counterparts should join the party soon. The latest update for the Galaxy Note 20 and Galaxy Note 20 Ultra should also soon reach markets outside the US. If you own any of the Galaxy S10 and Galaxy Note 20 phones, you can now be on the lookout for the April security update unless you have already received it. The new update will roll out to all eligible units over the air (OTA) within the next few days and weeks. You will get a notification for it once available. But if you want to manually check for it, you can navigate to Settings > Software update and tap on Download and install.
