The Galaxy S20 FE LTE is getting the December security patch in a host of European countries. SamMobile confirms the release in France, Luxembourg, Poland, Russia, Slovakia, Spain, and a bunch of other markets in the region. The update comes with firmware version G780FXXSAEVL1. It doesn’t bring any new features or changes to the phone. Samsung is only seeding the latest SMR (Security Maintenance Release). The new SMR brings plenty of vulnerability fixes, though. Samsung’s updated monthly security bulletin mentions as many as 80 patches. At least five of those concern critical vulnerabilities. These flaws allowed remote code execution without needing any additional privileges. This means that affected phones could be easily taken over by a remote attacker without the user’s knowledge. This December SMR also patches dozens of other high-severity vulnerabilities in Galaxy devices. If you’re using the Galaxy S20 FE LTE, all of these vulnerability fixes should be available to you anytime now. Users of the Galaxy S20 FE 5G can also look forward to receiving this update in the coming days.

The Galaxy S22 series is widely getting the December update

Along with adding the Galaxy S20 FE to its December security update party, Samsung is also now widely rolling out the new SMR to the Galaxy S22 series. The rollout began for the Snapdragon-powered models in some Asian countries earlier this week. The Exynos variants in Europe are also getting the latest security patch today. The new release bears the firmware version S90*BXXU2BVL1. The official changelog mentions some functionality stability improvements along with the latest vulnerability fixes. There’s no new feature here, though. The December SMR should soon reach the Galaxy S22 and Galaxy S20 FE phones in the US. Note that only the 5G version of the latter arrived in the US, and the rollout for that hasn’t even begun in international markets. Well, the device is still awaiting the Android 13 update in both North and South America. The December SMR will likely be part of the big Android release for the Galaxy S20 FE in these markets. We will let you know as soon as the rollout begins. As said earlier, you can always manually check for updates from the Settings app on your phone.
