As of this writing, the latest security update is available to the carrier-locked variants of the Galaxy S21, Galaxy S21+, and Galaxy S21 Ultra on T-Mobile and Sprint networks. The new firmware version for the phones is G99*USQU5CVF3. The rollout hasn’t hit the units on other carrier networks yet. It doesn’t seem to be available for users of the unlocked variants as well. But, their wait shouldn’t stretch much longer now. This update for Samsung’s Galaxy S21 trio weighs more than one gigabyte (1GB) over the air (OTA). But the company’s changelog only mentions this month’s vulnerability fixes and stability improvements. Its changelogs lately haven’t been telling the full story. Considering the size of the OTA package, there could be more here than what Samsung is telling. Nonetheless, the June SMR (Security Maintenance Release) for the Galaxy S21 FE is also currently limited to carrier-locked units. But it’s available to users on more networks, including Comcast and Xfinity Mobile. The update comes with firmware version G990USQU3CVF1. Users on the remaining networks, as well as those holding an unlocked Galaxy S21 FE, should also be getting the update within a few days. Once again, the changelog for this update only mentions the latest security fixes. But the build number for the new software package suggests there’s more within it. We aren’t hoping for any major new feature, but some optimizations might be on the way for the Galaxy S21 FE here.

The June security update fixes dozens of vulnerabilities

Samsung has been rolling out the June SMR to its devices for more than a month now. The Galaxy S21 phones, including the Galaxy S21 FE, have already received the latest security update in most international markets. The US units are also now picking it up. According to the company’s security bulletin, the June SMR contains fixes for more than five dozen vulnerabilities. These include issues that only affect Samsung’s Android-powered devices, including smartphones and tablets. If you’re using the Galaxy S21, Galaxy S21+, Galaxy S21 Ultra, or the Galaxy S21 FE in the US, watch out for a notification about this update in the coming days.
