Dates back to October, we reported that Google is developing the second-gen Tensor SoC for the Pixel 7. Also, the codename for this was “Cloudripper,” and the model number for Google’s second-generation Tensor chip is GS201, compared to the first generation with GS101. Also, the reports say that the chip will feature a Samsung modem with the model number “g5300b.” This modem is still in development, and it’s not available. Moreover, the source believes that the next Tensor chip comes with the Exynos Modem 5300. As per the reports, Google is developing two new devices associated with the Exynos Modem 5300. Their chosen codename is “Cheetah” and “Panther.” They will likely introduce the Pixel 7 and Pixel 7 Pro. These devices have a similar modem to Cloudripper.
Google codename scheme for Pixel devices gives us more details
Google follows an interesting codename scheme for its Pixel devices, and it might give us some clues. For Pixel 6 and 6 Pro, Google used codenames “Oriole” and “Raven.” The Pixel 6a came with the codename “Bluejay,” while the codename for Pixel Notepad was “Pipit.” However, for the Pixel 7 series, Google might ditch bird-like codenames and choose cat-like ones. Seeing codenames “Cheetah” and “Panther” more reassures us that they refer to the following Pixel devices. There is also a new codename called “Ravenclaw.” that is associated with Exynos Modem 5300. The source believes that it is another reference to the Pixel 7 series. In the coming months, we can hear more about the specifications of the Pixel 7 generation. Also, following Google’s traditional unveiling program, both devices will likely come this fall. However, the speculations about the possible features are starting to roll out.
