Right now, we’re getting new features because the second developer preview just dropped. As is usually the case, the first developer preview doesn’t really have many new features, but more surface as more previews come out. The second preview is already proving to have more new stuff.
Per-app language settings have been introduced with the latest Android 13 developer preview
When you set up a new phone, during the process, you’re supposed to choose which language you want it to be set to. This setting will count for the entire system, and that works for most people. However, it doesn’t work for everyone. There are sometimes when you need to have one app in one language, but others in a different language. Let’s say you want to have your business apps and recreational apps set to different languages. This is where per-app language settings come in. This feature is pretty straightforward and very useful. You’ll be able to go in and select what language you want to use for whichever app you want. And, there are different ways you can go and change the language for each app. First, you can go to the app itself, hold down on it, and select the “App Info” setting. There, you’ll see the “Language” setting for the app. Just tap on it and choose what language you want. The other way lets you select the language for multiple apps. Go to the system settings and go to your “Language & Input” section. Under there, you’ll see the “Language” section. From there, you’ll see a list of your apps; tapping an app will give you the option to change it.
What else is coming to Android 13: Voice typing for more Pixels phones
Until this point, the Google Assistant voice typing feature was only reserved for the Pixel 6 phones. Thanks to the Tensor chip loaded onto those phones, people can do offline voice dictation. Now, with the latest developer preview, people using the Pixel 5 and Pixel 5a will be able to do the same thing. So far, people using the Pixel 4 series of phones can’t do it just yet. Only time will tell if the feature will ever trickle down to that phone.
