Samsung has been making big sustainability efforts lately
Over the past few years, Samsung has put in serious efforts to make its products, packaging, and manufacturing processes sustainable and environment-friendly. It uses 100 percent renewable energy sources in several of its worksites globally. The Korean firm has also increased the use of recycled materials in its products to reduce its carbon footprint. The company recently revealed that it has used recycled fishing nets that were discarded into the ocean in the Galaxy S22, Galaxy Tab S8, and the latest Galaxy Book series. These sustainability efforts have been recognized and awarded globally. But it’s a never-ending process. Samsung recently launched a self-repair program for select Galaxy devices in the US. It has also announced a repair program with recycled parts, thus helping reduce e-waste. As part of its Galaxy for the Planet vision, the company is aiming to use recycled material in all its mobile products as well as eliminate all plastics in mobile packaging by 2025. In the meantime, the Korean firm regularly launches eco-friendly accessories to raise awareness. In September 2021, Samsung launched six sustainably-sourced watchbands and three watch faces for the Galaxy Watch 4 series in collaboration with Los Angeles-based fashion designer Sami Miró. It is teaming up with another reputed designer for something similar. “From the start, it was clear that we were aligned on our commitment to sustainability and finding real eco-conscious solutions people can use in their everyday lives,” said Sean Wotherspoon about Samsung’s efforts towards sustainability. “It’s what drew me to this opportunity. The collection is a simple, yet powerful way for people to show their support of the planet timed to Earth Day.”
