As the naming indicates, the Neo G9 is an upgraded version of the Odyssey G9 that broke cover last year. The primary difference is the inclusion of the Quantum Mini LED on the new monitor, whereas the G9 uses QLED. This Odyssey Neo G9 makes its way to the top of the company’s gaming monitor hierarchy. It is equipped with a 49-inch screen and a “Dual QHD” resolution of 5,120 x 1,440 pixels. Android Authority notes that the Quantum Mini LED on the new monitor offers a peak brightness of up to 2,000 nits. The Neo G9 also comes equipped with 2,048 local dimming zones as compared to just 10 on the predecessor.

Premium features demand a premium price tag

Additional features include a grey-to-grey response time of 1ms, a TÜV Rheinland-certified 1000R curved VA panel, plus usual suspects like HDR and HDR10+. The display refresh rate can go up to 240 Hz, making this the ideal choice for gamers. Connectivity options on the Neo G9 include a headphone jack, one DisplayPort 1.4 port, two HDMI 2.1 ports with Variable Refresh Rate (VRR) support, and two USB ports. The monitor is also compatible with G-Sync and FreeSync Premium Pro. The launch of the Neo G9 comes just a couple of months after Samsung announced a handful of new monitors in the Odyssey lineup. The 28-inch Odyssey G7 was the highlight packing a UHD panel and a $799.99 price tag. Meanwhile, the 27-inch Odyssey G5 was a mid-tier Quad HD (QHD) monitor for $499.99. Samsung also announced entry-level gaming monitors during the June event unveiling the Full HD Odyssey G3 in 27 and 24-inch variants priced at $299.99 and $249.99, respectively. Samsung has been ahead of the curve in terms of display technology, as evidenced by the company’s television business.
